To play Runescape you need Java. You can you Java at this link or when you start playing Runescape it will asked to be downloaded. Java is trustworthy and Runescape is coded using this so you need it to play.
To start playing Runescape you need to go onto the official website (which has recently been updated) and if you don't have an account already, you need to sign up. If not, you can start playing straight away by clicking on the world you want.
Runescape is downloaded from the internet, although to play you have to have a computer good enough. These are called system requirements. It is what Runescape needs in order to work on your computer. If you select "low detail" which requires a less good computer, then you will find that there are no roofs on the houses etc. Some people have a good enough computer to use high detail, although select low detail just so they can see inside houses.
What do you need?
If you are young and don't know what this means, then you can ask your mom or dad if your computer is good enough. If you do not know then do a search on Google. You need a 300MHz CPU and 64MB RAM. Any computer bought within the last 3-5 years should definitely have enough. Even a computer I know of that is nearly 10 years old should be able to handle Runescape.
When you first start, a gray security box will come up saying "Do you want to install and run Runescape?". Click the box saying "Always trust content from Jagex Ltd. and click "Yes".
Every time you play, make sure to check you are on www.runescape.com not on a scam website, because there are a lot around which will record what you type in and steal your account!
